Syllabus.

Understanding the Old Testament

An introduction to the integrated message of the Old Testament, showing God’s story from creation to restoration. Students see how the “very good” beginning in Genesis connects to the renewed “very good” ending in Revelation, forming one continuous message.

Course Duration: 18 hours

Course Period: January 2026

Life in the Spirit

A biblical understanding of the Holy Spirit covering areas such as the Spirit in the Old Testament, in the life of Jesus, the Baptism of the Spirit, the Spirit in John’s Gospel, at Pentecost, the gifts of the Spirit and fruit of the Spirit. Students learn what the Bible teaches about the Spirit, grow in confidence in His work, and are encouraged to seek more of Him.

Theology of the Holy Spirit

Understanding the New Testament

A look at the New Testament in relation to the Old Testament, God’s purpose in creation, His plan for the church, and His eternal plan. Students explore the big picture and see how each book fits into it, gaining understanding of the church universal, the local church, the individual believer, and the end time described in Scripture.

Introduction to Evangelism & Apologetics

An exploration of the fundamentals of Evangelism and Apologetics, covering the biblical basis, methods, and practices of evangelism. Addresses evangelism and apologetics in a post-truth, post-Christian culture. Students learn to contextualize the gospel, address cultural and spiritual obstacles, build positive and negative arguments for the faith, and design a discipleship pathway using apologetics.

Course Duration: 18 hours

Church Leadership Principles

Healthy Leadership

A focus on the private and public realities of leadership in the church, as well as calling, identity in Christ, margins, growth of character through dealing suffering, criticism, and other elements that are faced In life in ministry. Students learn to embody leadership the way Jesus would lead, prioritize being before doing and will learn how to approach and lead weddings, funerals, baby dedications, communion, and water baptism.

Course Duration: 18 hours

Course Period: October 2026

Introduction to Theology

An overview of biblical doctrines and how they relate to understanding our faith. Examines the process of doing theology in a secular age, with emphasis will be placed on how theology helps us to know God and serve him better. Students will learn systematic theology, major doctrines of the Christian faith, and how to explain theological concepts, covering Scripture, God, Christ, salvation, creation, humanity, sin, the church, and the future.

Course Duration: 18 hours

Course Period: November 2026

Preaching & Teaching

A training program to provide tools, strategies, and resources for teaching and preaching the Bible effectively in a va local church settings. Students will learn how to design creative learning experiences, create a detailed set of criteria that can be used to guide teaching and preaching efforts, and prepare teaching outlines for sermons and Bible studies.

Course Duration: 18 hours

Details.

10-month program
1 course per month
Program dates: January 5, 2026 – December 24, 2026
Summer break: July–August
Class days: Tuesdays and Thursdays
Class length: 3 hours per class
6 classes per course
Last week of each month is a break before the next course starts the following month

Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be awarded the Church Ministry Certificate (CMC) from Vanguard college. CMC will generally be recognized as equivalent to 10 credits towards other programs at the College.

CMC does not guarantee acceptance for credentials but can be used as part of the requirements for the credential process for those interested in pursuing a ‘provisional recognition of Ministry.’
